A bellwether of people-first leadership, Susan Ryan, FCPHR, CPA, has long allied her mastery of finance and human resources to the betterment of bigger pictures—and as Chief Financial Officer for the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation since 2003.

Previously VP & CFO with the Yukon Workers Compensation Health & Safety Board, Susan holds the two professions to be intrinsically linked— both key to creating safe workplaces and sustainable success.

Appointed Chair of CPHR Canada in 2022, Sue completed her term as Chair in 2024, and now serves as Immediate Past Chair.  Sue continues to serve on the North America Human Resources Management Association as the immediate Past Chair, having served as President from 2023 to 2024.  Serving on the CPHR BC & Yukon board from 2013 to 2023, Sue chaired the Board for four years.  Recognized as a Fellow CPHR in 2018 for her contributions to the HR profession, Susan remains a strong national and global proponent of Canada’s premier HR designation—and lifelong learning.

Sue has completed the prestigious ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors, as well as her Chartered MCIPD from the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development in the UK, and was appointed Chair of the Board of the Credit Counselling Society in March 2022, serving until 2024.  She remains on the Board as immediate Past Chair, and has previously served as President of Certified Management Accountants of Yukon and on the Board of the Certified Management Accountants (CMA) Society of Canada.

A strong believer in giving back, Susan has volunteered her unique skills throughout her professional life, including as a Governor for Queen Margaret’s School on Vancouver Island, Treasurer for Encore! Women’s Choir, President of Chemainus Classical Concerts and as a Director of the Institute of Public Administration of Canada.
